Course Overview:
The most pressing issue facing the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) in 2015 is balancing the country’s increasing health care needs arising from changing population demographics. There is always high demand of jobs in this sector According to Health Careers; there are more than 350 different careers on offer.
The largest employer in the health sector is the NHS, which employs more than 1.6 million people in the UK. There are many independent healthcare providers in private sector including Bupa, Care UK, BMI Healthcare etc. which offers thousands of jobs from this sector.
South London Academy offers Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (QCF) Courses to cater the resources in this industry.
These qualifications are designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a broad range of health or social care settings.
A Diploma in Health and Social Care is flexible to suit all fields of health and social care. Learners can select a pathway that suits their role - for example, working with people with a learning disability, people with dementia or children and young people.
This is the main qualification required by the Quality Care Commission in England and the Care Councils in Wales and Northern Ireland.
The qualification is made up of mandatory and optional units. All of the diplomas share some core units with further mandatory and optional units.
SLA will offer three pathway options for the HSC Adults Diploma in England namely;
- Generic
- Dementia
- Learning Disabilities.

Course Objectives:
Our Health & Social Care Nursing Assistant / Support Workers course is designed to get all students to achieve their City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care so that you can work as a Senior Care Assistant with in the care sector and prepare you for progression into higher education such as the University to continue your career path way in nursing, social worker, health promotion etc.
Who is the course for?
If you want to train and start your career to become a qualified nurse and are able to attend the academy one day a week and also to be able to work in the health & social care sector (nursing homes, hospitals, community healthcare etc with a placement for a minimum of 15 hours then this course is for you.
- Care Assistants, support and key workers in adult residential settings.
- Care assistants, support and key workers in day services, or domiciliary services.
- Healthcare assistants and support workers in primary care and community environments or in acute health environments.
- Support workers in ‘Supported living’ initiatives and projects.
This qualification may also suit personal assistants for individuals, or the families of those individuals, who employ them direct.
Course Structure (What will I Study):
The qualification carries 58 credits consisting of 28 credit value from mandatory units and 30 credit value from optional units of your chosen pathway.
Course Requirement
- a good general standard of education, such as GCSEs (A-C) including English, maths and/or science
- You must be in employment in the care setting or looking to set your career in care industry, this can be full, part-time or in a voluntary capacity.
- successful in SLA online initial assessment
- successful in interview with course leader
